William "Billy" Pennington was convicted at age 17 in Cincinnati for a murder he did not commit. He has been in prison since 2010 and is currently incarcerated at the notoriously sadistic Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville. Several years after Billy's conviction, the original eyewitness came forward with a heavy conscience and provided a sworn affidavit about lying in court. Billy was not present during the crime. Other questionable evidence used for conviction, such as a shoeprint, are now being investigated, and the recent removal of Judge Charles Kubicki offers hope for the case to finally be reviewed. There are thousands of wrongfully incarcerated inmates in Ohio alone, preyed upon by a system exploiting their lack of legal knowledge. The later months of 2020 saw a fierce surge of support for Billy's family, in their fight to reunite outside razorwire fences. Free Billy Day was an outdoor fundraiser event at Bellevue Park, following several protests at Hamilton County Courthouse, and a demonstration outside Lucasville prison when Billy had been given a month in solitary confinement immediately after a courthouse protest organized by his wife.
